Ceiling Fan Controls Types

Pretty much everything you need to know about ceiling fan control types

Even though there are literally hundreds and hundreds of different kinds of ceiling fans out there, there are really only three major ceiling fan controls types that you will have the opportunity to take advantage of.

Yes, there are a bunch of different options available in each of these three major types that you’ll be able to pick and choose from (we’re talking about subsets like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi remote controls under the “Remote Control” category), very much every ceiling fan is going to be run and controlled off of one of three different technologies:

  • Remote controls
  • Pull chains
  • Wall controls

Pull chain ceiling fan controls types

Of all the different ceiling fan control types that you’re going to come across, pull chains are the most common.
Built right into the ceiling fans (so that you don’t have to do anything at all to get your ceiling fan up and running right out of the box after installation), you’re going to be able to pull these chains to control the speed and direction of your ceiling fan – and usually the lights, as well.

Remote controls

Remote controls are available for most high and ceiling fans, and really add a glut of extra convenience to these purchases that didn’t used to exist.
If you’d love nothing more than to be able to effortlessly control the speed and direction of your fans, turn them on or off (or set them to a timer), or manipulate all of your lights – all without having to ever get up out of bed or off the sofa – this is the ceiling fan control type for you!

Wall controls

This is probably the most popular solution for individuals that are looking to add new ceiling fans to new construction or to a renovation. There’s a lot of convenience in being able to completely control your ceiling fans directly from a place on your wall (usually located right next to all of the other main light switches for a particular space). If you aren’t interested in pulling chains or having to search for a remote control that you can’t remember where you placed it last, wall controls are the ceiling fan controls types for you!
At the end of the day, you’re going to be able to effortlessly control and manipulate your ceiling fan pretty much any way you like.

I’ve always loved working with my hands. I love the challenge of building something new or saving something old. I have a passion for reviewing and testing the home products. I believe (hope) that there are people out there that might find this help. (Delusional as well.)
